We strive to bring an innovative approach to developing and/or restoring a positive sense of self and identity through forward thinking evidenced-based, evidenced supported and trauma-informed curriculums, with positive interactions and advanced technology.’ Understanding that trauma plays an important factor in everyone’s life, we apply Positive Behavior Intervention Supports that are intertwined with the Nurtured Heart Approach (NHA).

ASun Star’s vision is to help every individual see a picture without a box, and to see beyond a single life experience to be the “BRIGHTEST STAR” that they can be.

ABOUT US:

Established in 2005, ASun Star grew out of the platform “Violence Against Children by Children,” which was initially created within the Miss America Organization.  It was during this event where ASun Star’s Executive Director created the R.E.A.C.T. (Recreational Events Aiding Children’s Talents) initiative. R.E.A.C.T was developed as an after-school program that focused on the strengths perspective as it monopolized on the assets of the youth and provided recreational activities as homework readiness, esteem building, self-image and academic enhancement to enable the youth to succeed in the community.  

However; during the program’s course, it became evident that children and youth flourish with settings in his/her community and structured activities that were ‘home-like.’ Therefore; ASun Star emerged as a significant provider of in-home intensive services in order to provide programming geared to a natural setting.

Our organization believes in addressing the whole person in his/her environment; in order to provide the best care possible.  Our belief in resilience and enhancement of life choices helped develop our continuum of care. In order to meet the needs of the community and create environments outside of institutions; ASun Star initiated development; phase two phase, by providing services for children/youth, adolescents, adults and families.
